Rarely will a non-local tour guide have enough local knowledge to be able to operate these tours
in a knowledgeable & interesting manner. Our tours can be complex routes or require more
complex logistics where we use our own vehicles to get us to the starts of many routes and thus see the best of the local countryside without wasting time on the less interesting sections.

Accommodation on Hiking tours

We usually use self catering apartments or B&B as our accommodation. But we can also provide you with Hotel or other accommodation.

When we are on longer hikes that lead us through small towns, we cannot always offer a
wide range of first class accommodation. However we have chosen our itineraries so that we can
guarantee a minimum of 2* Hotels with decent size rooms that have been chosen for comfort &
quality of service. In some towns (Ronda, Arcos, Grazalema, and Zahara Atunes for example) we can offer camping sites.

Hiking in the Grazalema Natural Parks

A fascinating journey through an impressive Nature Reserve, Hiking through cork forests &
limestone valleys with possible overnight stays in charming Andalucian ‘pueblos blancos’. This itinerary is only one example of our many different itineraries. The final itinerary for your holiday will be chosen with you.

Trip outline:

Hiking in some of the finest of Andalucia’s wild landscapes. We hike through the pine woods &
limestone crags of Grazalema.

This is moderate hiking on occasionally rough ground. We hike about 15kms a day. The landscape is spectacular & we may see on the way Vultures, Eagles & Falcons as well as Red Deer, Wild Boar & Mongee.

Mountain meadows & valleys – Grazalema

We hike into the Grazalema Park and along a series of elongated plains amongst the peaks (the ‘Llanos de Libar’) with little farms and meadows harbouring everything from guinea fowl to Iberian pigs. The Meadows here often have plenty of flowers most times of the year even in winter. Terrain is gently although gradually uphill.

The difficulty depends upon the recent rainfall as the river has to be crossed a few times. It’s a good adventure and expect to see plenty of wildlife & maybe a wild boar or two as well.

The rare Pinsapar forest

Uphill for this hike into the heart of the rare Pinsapar forest. The rare Pinsapo fir tree is native
only to this part of Europe & it grows at an altitude of between 1,000m to 1,600m. The high
rainfall here plus the wet, cool summers are essential to its survival. Great views and it is really quite special to see this hardy survivor still clinging on to its unique habitat.

The classic white hill town of Grazalema and its colourful geranium filled balconies lead us into a
Natural Park where Eagles and Vultures cruising overhead are a common sight.

Depending on which hiking tour is chosen for your group the hikes will lead you through the beautiful white washed villages of Grazalema, Zahara de la Sierra and El Bosque.

These visits can be used to see an old flour mill, a woollen mill, and a castle ... a tour of the town or just to relax.
